Record-Breaking Convention and Tradeshow: SEPCON @ Imaging USA 2008

What event broke its attendee and tradeshow records in January? SEPCON @ Imaging USA, of course, held January 6-8 in Tampa, Florida.  Imaging USA drew in a total of 8,600 attendees and 315 companies in almost 600 tradeshow booths. As Gary Strain, attendee and speaker, commented, “After 35+ years attending [Imaging USA conventions], I thought it was the best ever!”

It was hard to not be excited about Imaging USA’s offerings: more than 100 educational programs, global networking, and almost 600 tradeshow booths…the largest in the event’s history! The programs featured presentations by preeminent photographers, including Randy Brister, Keith Trainor, Peter Read Miller and Howard Schatz, to name a few. In between programs, attendees flooded the Imaging Expo tradeshow floor to see some of the best products and services in the industry. Here they passed the Saturn car, symbolizing the return of an exciting Society of Sport & Event Photographers (SEP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA) member benefit: the Sweepstakes Marketing Co-op, helping photographers give more to clients with the chance to win great sweepstake prizes. In the Microsoft Theatre, photographers like Denis Reggie and Deanne Fitzmaurice gave daily seminars. And throughout the tradeshow, photographers were discovering new products, learning, and finding great deals.

Such excitement helped the nonprofits that hosted the event, too. For instance, PPA crossed the 20,000 member mark on the last day of the convention. As one attendee said, Imaging USA makes you “proud to be a member” of associations like PPA, SEP, Commercial Photographers International (CPI), and the Evidence Photographers International Council (EPIC).

The programs, the parties (hosted by Canon and Kodak), and the SEP evening networking event sponsored by Express Digital all provided the combination of fun and networking synonymous with SEPCON. Taste some of that fun by watching video clips of the event on IUSA TV ( )

Also watch for SEPCON @ Imaging USA 2009 in Phoenix (January 11-13, 2009) to become another world- class event.
